“Strongest witness to Christ’s love is love for the poor” Archbishop tells gathering at St. Mary’s Orphanage

img-20161208-wa0017Bengaluru, Dec 09: Archbishop Dr. Bernard was in for a pleasant surprise when 75 inmates of St. Mary’s Orphanage in D’costa Layout carrying flags greeted and escorted him from the gate at 5pm, December 08.  Their symbolic gesture was to mark the 75th Birthday of the Archbishop (Birthday-August 10).  The  Orphanage celebrates its annual day on December 8th.

img-20161208-wa0019Archbishop Moras in his address to a gathering of 215 inmates, priests, nuns, well wishers and benefactors said “The Church today eagerly looks forward to more and more people who are willing to help in providing succor to the less fortunate.  The strongest witness of our love for Christ is manifested in our love for the poor and marginalized. The mission of Jesus always focused on uplifting the down trodden”.

The archbishop while thanking the benefactors and associates of the Institution recalled the vision of Archbishop Thomas Pothachamury saying it was the first institution that he started in the Archdiocese. Commending the children he said “Those who visit this orphanage will certainly not like to call them orphans.  They are studious, well behaved and formed with spiritual values”.

img-20161208-wa0028Nobert, a member on the board thanked the Archbishop for his keen interest in the children while Fr. Sagaya John, Director of NBCLC along with the Orphanage director Fr. Devakumar and other priests present felicitated the Archbishop. Fr. Devakumar, a ‘late vocation’ who quit a well-paying job in BEML (Bharath Earth Movers Limited) to become a priest,  expressed his  gratitude to God and the Archbishop saying “When our beloved Archbishop just celebrated his 49th ordination anniversary, I  recalled how I was ordained at the age of 49”.
