“Even a thousand miles begun with the first step” Archbishop tells college students

Bengaluru, Jan 08:  Over 200 Catholic students from across the Archdiocese gathered at Paalanaa Bhavana on January 07th at 10:00 a.m. under the aegis of Commission for Bible and Catechetics to celebrate the Annual College Catechism Day .

Recalling the year that began 4th June 2016 Fr. Santhosh Jude, secretary of the Commission said “I’m very happy to take you all through the journey that has brought us all to this juncture of  success”. He noted that the YouCat academic year began for the college with an orientation for the college catechism co-ordinators and teachers. He also informed the gathering that the core committee consisting of one teacher from each college was present to discuss better dissemination of information to the colleges from the commission.

The syllabus discussion had  ended with a decision that part 1 and 2 for the 1st Pre-university and part 3, 4 of the YouCat book be used for the second Pre-university syllabus. Fr. Santosh also observed that “Since the diocese also has skill training institutions like ITI, Community College, etc., the archdiocese felt the need to spiritually root them and so the Commission proposed that part 3 and 4 of the YouCat can be taught as a syllabus for them. This was agreed upon and the colleges dispersed with a strong sense of passion to take the Catholic teaching to the youth of our Mother Church.

Archbishop Dr. Bernard Moras in his address to the gathering said “Even a thousand miles begun with the first step”. He exhorted students and teachers “to be firm in Faith and be equipped with the scriptures”. The Prelate emphasized that Spiritual progress should take precedence over Academic progress.
