Archbishop Celebrates First Feast Mass at St Thomas Church at Kanakanagar

Bengaluru 7 August 2017: This year was the First Parish Feast after it was declared as an independent Parish on 1st January 2017. It was before a substation of St. Paul De Hermit at  V. Nagenahalli and later on  St . Thomas parish was carved out fromSt. Paul De Hermit at  V. Nagenahalli, St. Antony’s Church, Kavalbyrasandra and St. Jude’s Church R. T. Nagar.

There was a Tridum which started on 3rd August 2017 with flag hoisting. Every day there was a Mass at 5.00 pm in English followed by rosary and then Mass in Kannada. For all the three days there was preaching in English by Fr. Sunny Richard and in Kannada by Fr. Francis Xavier.

It was the blessing of God that the First Feast day Mass was celebrated by our Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras and was con-celebrated byits first parish priest Fr. Devadas who was installed in office on 19th June 2017 by Dean Rev FrMichael Anthony. Presently the parish has an approximate 600 number of members. There were more than 1000 faithful, from far and near who were part of this august gathering.

The jubilation began with an impressive band which escorted the Archbishop in a grand procession to the Church.In his homily the Archbishop stressed on the importance of being together as one community, regardless of one’s caste or community.  “We are called upon to reflect on Jesus as Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us. Jesus brought everyone into his fold and made no distinctions between people. St. Thomas’ declaration ‘My Lord and My God’ implies that he understood the presence of God coming to dwell amidst us in the person of Jesus Christ”.

The celebration ended up with fellowship- agape joining with all the faithful who took up  part in this celebration.
