Inauguration of First Jesuit Law College in South Asia

Archbishop Most Rev Dr. Bernard Moras says “The Spirit of the Law is more important than the letter of the Law”, at the Inauguration of First Jesuit Law College in South Asia

 16th September 2107: The Inauguration of St Joseph’s College of Law, Bengaluru was held on Saturday 16th September 2017 at St Joseph’s Boys’ School Auditorium.

The occasion saw a number of people invited from different spheres .The Chief Guest for the occasion was Hon’ble Mr Justice Kurien Joseph,Judge, Supreme Court of India,the other guests of Honour were Most Rev Dr. Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bengaluru, Prof. Dr. Chidananda Reddy Patil, Vice Chancellor (Actg.), Karnataka State Law University ,Prof. Dr. V B Coutinho, Vice Chancellor, Garden City University,Prof. Dr. R. Venkata Rao,Vice Chancellor,NLSIU,Y R Sadashiva Reddy,  Chairman, of Karnataka Stae Bar Council & Member Bar Council of India ,Jayakumar S Patil,Member Karnataka State Bar Council,Mr. NA Harris MLA of Shanthinagar Constituency .

Among the invitees were Heads of Sister Institutions, Heads of  other Institutions, Parents & Wellwishers who were also welcomed by the Provincial Rev.Fr.Dr.Jerome Stanislaus D’souza Rector Fr.Anthony Joseph  and the Director of St .Joseph’s College of  Law  Rev.Fr.Swebert Dsilva.

The programme commenced with a short visual presentation about the College put together by the students of the college.The Rector Rev.Fr Anthony Joseph delivered the welcome address. During his address the Rector emphaisized that St.Josephs College of law was committed to the cause of securing justice to the downtrodden and the needy.The Archbishop Rev.Dr.Bernard Moras lead the gathering in prayer .

The College was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest Honble Justice Kurien Joseph and the Provincial Rev.Fr.Dr.Jerome Stanislaus D’souza by unveiling the College flag.

The Chief Guest for Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph in his Presidential address emphaisized on the need to abide by the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law.

Archbishop Rev.Dr.Bernard Moras also reinstated the same sentiments as that of the Chief guest by making references to the gospel to describe the bibical idea of justice.

Prof. Dr. Chidananda Reddy Patil, acting Vice Chancellor, Karnataka State Law University declared of his willingness to support the institution wholeheartedly in our endeavors.

Prof. Dr. V B Coutinho, Vice Chancellor, Garden City University, Bengaluru had a few woeds of advice for the Institution in his address.      He stressed the need to have a full fledged research centre at the earliest.

Prof. Dr. R. Venkata Rao promised his unwavering support to the institution whenever the need arises.

Mr. NA Harris MLA of Shanthinagar Constituency  also pleged his support to the Institution.

The Provincial Rev.Fr.Dr.Jerome Stanislaus D’Souza and the  Rector Rev.Fr Anthony Joseph felicitated the Dignitaries on the dias.

At the end Fr.Swebert D’Silva, Director St Josephs College of Law delivered the vote of thanks  .

The programme ended with the singing of the national anthem.
