Nativity of Our Lady of Good Health-2016

The Nativity of Our Lady of Good Health and feast day of St.Mary’s Basilica Church, Shivajinagar, and Bangalore was celebrated on Thursday, 8th September 2016. The concluding day of novena and Feast day was celebrated in a grand manner, it all began with a Cake cutting at 12.00am at the Shrine of Mother Mary by wish and singing Happy Birthday to Mother Mary. The mass began at 4.30am and continued till 8.30pm in the evening by every half an hour and the mass were celebrated in three languages Kannada, Tamil and English. The two high concelebrated mass in Kannada and Tamil were celebrated by The Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore at the Shivajinagar, Russell market square for the massive crowed, the Vicar Generals , Chancellor, Procurators, Secretaries, Rectors, Administrators and other Hierarchy and councils members of the Archdiocese of Bangalore concelebrated. At the end of both the masses archbishop , released an eight-page Handout titled: Why Catholics honour the Blessed Virgin Mary?, prepared by the Archdiocesan Communications Centre (ACC), In this handout the reasons for honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary were highlighted from the scriptural and the theological perspectives. A few punchlines from the Handouts are: “If Jesus is your brother, who is Mary to him? She is his Mother. You want only ‘the Brother’ and not ‘his Mother’?” “It is not enough that we honour only Jesus but it is also our duty to honour his mother.” “Jesus gave Mary to his beloved disciple John as his mother. We are also Christ’s beloved disciples, hence Mary automatically becomes our Mother as well.” Handouts were made available in Kannada, Tamil and English, and were distributed to the devotees by the Volunteers on the same day.
Evening decorated car with the statue of Mother Mary was blessed by Archbishop and inaugurated by Honorable Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah the chief Guest. Honorable Minister Sri K J George and other Guests Sri Roshan Biag minister for information and Huj, Haris MLA and Corporators were present. Thousands of devotees of Our Lady of Good Health witnessed the wonders and participated in the procession with the decorated car of mother Mary statue. The feast concluded with a final blessing through an adoration of Blessed sacrament on the mega stage at Russell market square.
