Archbishop carries Christmas cheer to Central Prison

Bengaluru, Dec 20: At least 300 prisoners, their relatives and members from the Prison Ministry of India came together for a pre-Christmas celebration at Bangalore Central Jail. Chief Superintendent Krishna Kumar, Superintendent Dr. Anitha, George, the director of Orange County Foundation, Fr. Sebastine, National director of the Prison Ministry in India (PMI) and it’s  members Sr. Shiney and Fr. Paschal of were present.

Chief Superintendent of the Prison, Krishna Kumar linked Jesus to a ‘great prophet’ saying how Jesus brought the message of brotherhood, peace and mercy to all.

dsc00262The Archbishop in his message to the gathering spoke of a mother who scarred her face and eyes badly while trying to save her child from a blazing fire said “Jesus was wounded that we may be healed.  It is an act of great sacrifice. Christmas is a time to cherish the love God has for us and to share the love and mercy with others” .The Archbishop commended the work of the Prison Ministry “that carries this love of God to prisoners and their family members”.

National Director of the Prison Ministry in India, Fr. Sebastine said “It is not how many who love us that matters but how many people we love that is important”.  Deeply appreciating the Archbishop, he added “There has never been any Bishop in the country who is so supportive of the Prison Ministry like Archbishop Bernard Moras”.dsc00263

The families of the prisoners are rehabilitated through the Prison Ministry and the children are provided means of education.  The children put up a splendid cultural performance. During the program, the Archbishop cut the Christmas cake and offered his prayers and blessings on the occasion of Christmas.
